Making a kavad.

Acrylic paint, Gouache and gold leaf on wood | Created for a uni module after a trip to Rajasthan (2023)

A Kavad is a traditional storytelling device from the Mewar region in Rajasthan. This small wooden box would have been transported throughout villages and used within temples to depict religious fables. Typically, animals would have been used to convey these moral lessons.

Our task for for this project was to create a narrative, and so I was inspired by the culture of Rajasthan to make my own Kavad, which tells a story of a cow and her journey to find a home.
